United Kingdom: retail footfall change in shopping centers 2019-2021
Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and social distancing measures the UK government took, retail footfall after March 2020 saw an unprecedented fall. Not unexpectedly, visitor numbers to shopping centers took the biggest hit, declining by almost 85 percent in May 2020. Most recently reported numbers showed that in December 2021, the situation in shopping centers slightly improved despite being far from pre-pandemic levels, recording a decline in footfall of 36.6 percent compared to the levels observed in the same month of 2019.
