Medal count by country in the Men's Shot Put at the Summer Olympics 1896-2020
The Men's Shot Put has been included in all Summer Olympic Games since the inaugural games in 1896. Since then, athletes from the United States have dominated the event, winning 18 gold medals and 49 overall medals (roughly sixty percent of the respective total medals ever won). The most successful athletes in this event are Ralph Rose and Parry O'Brien, both from the US, who each won two golds and one silver medal from 1904 to 1912, and 1952 to 1960 respectively. Two athletes were stripped of medals won in this event; these were the 2004 gold medallist Yuriy Bilonoh of Ukraine, and 2008 bronze medallist Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus; both medals were redistributed accordingly.
