Transportation HFC emissions in the U.S. 1990-2022
Transportation-related hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) emissions in the United States totaled 29.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. Although transport HFC emissions have experienced an overall increase relative to 1992 levels, they have fallen by roughly 55 percent since peaking in 2008. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are human-made greenhouse gases that are often used as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances in air conditioning, refrigeration, and other applications.
