According to a survey conducted in May 2020, close to 88 percent of employees at temples in Japan stated that some of the planned memorial services were postponed or canceled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Memorial services at temples in Japan are usually performed several times during seven weeks after the death of a person and once a year on the death-day.
