annual average unemployment rate in Latin America and the Caribbean was 9.3 percent. During that same year, the unemployment rate for males in the region stood at 7.7 percent while for females it was significantly higher, with 11.3 percent. During 2020, the unemployment rate for both genders was the highest since at least 2008, which could have been a result of job losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
