Freedom of expression score in Burundi 2000-2022
In 2022, Burundi received a score of 11 points in the Global Expression Report (GxR). This was four points higher compared to the previous year. Since 2000, the freedom of speech in the country followed a decreasing trend. For instance, the country received its highest score in 2005 and 2006 at 34 points, while it was lowest in 2017 at five points. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
