Freedom of expression score in Sudan 2000-2022
Sudan scored 15 points in the Global Expression Report (GxR) in 2022. This was the same value received in the last year and was a decrease from the 22 points registered in 2020. The country's score rose considerably in 2019 after the previous president, Omar Al-Bashir was removed in a coup d'état after people took to the street to protest a deterioration of the economy. Starting the mid of April 2022, clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and are still taking place as late July 2022. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
