Antibiotics are medications that can kill or hinder the growth of bacteria which can cause infections in people and animals. Antibiotic resistance occurs when there is a mutation in the bacteria's genes, however excessive use of antibiotics can also lead to the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria. In 2022, 45 percent of respondents in Europe who received information about not taking antibiotics unnecessarily reported that they received this information from a doctor, while 23 percent reported that they received this information from the TV or through other programs. This statistic displays responses from individuals regarding how they got information about not taking any antibiotics unnecessarily in EU27, in 2022.
