Premature deaths related to air pollution in Greece 2021, by pollutant
Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) concentrations above the WHO AQ health limit was attributable to roughly 10,000 premature deaths in Greece in 2021. Meanwhile, exposure to nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) led to an additional 2,100 premature deaths in the Mediterranean country that year. Athens – Greece's capital – is amongst the most polluted capital cities in Europe.
