Payment preferences in peri-urban areas in South Africa 2022, by payment method
As of 2023, cash was the most preferred method of payment in peri-urban areas in South Africa, at 33 percent. Service provider apps were the second most utilized payment method, at 25 percent. However, only eight percent make use of credit cards, which is significantly lower than those in urban areas.
