Since the creation of passenger sea tours in the 1840s, cruise ships have a garnered a reputation for offering its guests a glamorous, luxurious and carefree mode of travel. The level of luxury cruise booking activity according to travel agents in the U.S. was determined between 2012 and 2014. And the results can be used as an indication of luxury cruises’ popularity. In 2013, 46.7 percent of travel agents stated that their luxury cruise bookings had increased over the previous year.
However, regardless of the luxurious setting, travelling on the open seas can sometimes result in unpredictable and unfavorable experiences. Common travel disruptions experienced by cruise travelers during a trip in the U.S. were recorded in a survey as of January 2015. The results revealed that 57.6 percent of respondents had experienced disruption due to a change in the cruise itinerary during a voyage. Alarmingly, 6.7 percent of respondents had had their cruise disrupted due to quarantine.
