Greenhouse gas emissions annual change in the U.S. 1991-2022
In 2022, total gross greenhouse gas emissions in the United States increased by 0.2 percent from 2021 levels. The largest annual reduction in U.S. emissions over the past three decades was observed in 2020, when COVID-19-related lockdowns and restrictions caused emissions to plummet almost nine percent from 2019 levels. This was followed by an annual increase of 5.4 percent.
