Hotel mergers and acquisitions
Since 2014, there has been a significant number of M&A deals across the global hotel industry. The Accor hotel group, owner of brands including Ibis, Novotel and Mecure, acquired FRHI, which owns the Fairmont, Raffles and SwissĂ´tel brands, in 2016, resulting in an expansion into the luxury hotel segment. Marriott international also announced it would be acquiring Starwood Hotels and Resorts in 2015, with the deal finalized in September 2016. The number of Marriott hotel rooms has since increased worldwide.
