Just Eat Takeaway: delivery giant with Dutch roots
The Dutch company Thuisbezorgd was founded by Jitse Groen in 2000. Approximately a decade later, the delivery company changed its name to Takeaway. In 2020, the British food ordering company Just Eat merged with Takeaway.com into the delivery giant Just Eat Takeaway, which is now a leading online food delivery platform connecting customers with local restaurants in over 20 countries around the world. The marketplace allows users to search for local restaurants, browse menus, and place orders for delivery or pickup. Globally, the Amsterdam-based company generated revenue of 5.5 billion euros in 2022. As of February 2023, the company had become the second most-funded food delivery company in the European Union (EU), having raised a total of 2.8 billion euros in funding.Just Eat Takeaway is today the parent company of Thuisbezorgd.nl, which has continued to be a household name in the country. In 2022, around 75 percent of Dutch consumers reported booking through the delivery service. Thuisbezorgd.nl also had a successful year with its mobile app, as over 733,000 users downloaded it.
