California: estimated hybrid and electric new vehicle market share 2018-2022
In 2022, battery-electric and plug-in hybrid electric held an aggregated 20.1 percent of the new vehicle market in California. Non-rechargeable hybrid vehicles were also popular, representing 11 percent of the market that same year. However, while non-rechargeable hybrids have steadily gained in popularity since 2018, battery-electric vehicles record the steepest growth, up by 12.5 percentage points in 2022 compared to 2018.
