Wildlife items seized in Tanzania 2014-2022, by type
In 2022, Tanzania recorded 18 wildlife seizures that involved elephant tusks/ivory. Over the period under review, most wildlife-related products were confiscated between 2015 and 2016, with elephants being the main target of poachers as close to 2,000 such items were seized. Due to the formation of the National Taskforce on Anti-Poaching in 2016 as well as improvements made to law enforcement, Tanzania has effectively managed to clamp down on wildlife crimes.
