Economic loss caused by coastal floods in the EU 2020-2100, by scenario
As of 2020, the economic damage due to coastal flooding in the European Union (including the UK) stood at around 1.4 billion euros per year. This figure could grow to more than 200 billion euros per year by 2100, under a high emissions scenario where no adaptation measures are taken. In contrast, if adaptation measures are applied, economic damage caused by coastal floods in the EU would remain below 25 billion euros per year, even under a high emissions scenario.
